WHO WE SERVE
The Day Education Program is an intensive year-round program for high-risk youth who did not take well to traditional schooling another chance to earn their High School Diploma. This program is designed to provide a safe, highly structured, supervised environment in which to focus on education, cognitive restructuring, community service, independent living skills training and family issues.
We serve youth that are between the ages of 14 and 19 years old; youth referred by DCS or juvenile probation, or students who are having difficulty adjusting socially or progressing academically in school.
Individualized Education & Treatment Plans
Students work at their own pace using age-appropriate educational materials. Upon intake, each student receives a comprehensive mental health assessment. The Day Education therapists then create a treatment plan with input from the students, parents, instructors, DCS and Probation as applicable.
Individual and Group Therapy
Students attend a cognitive skills group each day, covering topics such as: self-acceptance, feelings, problem solving, decision making, healthy relationships and substance abuse. They also have access to our Day Education Therapists for individual and family therapy.
Incentives
We encourage and reward attendance, participation, and appropriate behavior as well as educational achievement. This includes a weekly reward lunch on Fridays and other individualized incentives.
Transportation
Transportation is available to the youth if needed. The UMYH staff will go into the community and pick up the young person at a specific location close to their home in order to maintain privacy amongst the other young people.
Other Services
Some of the other services provided in the Day Education Program include case management, behavior modification, drug screening, and child development/parenting education.
"We are so proud of Kamden! We will miss Kamden's encouragement, kindness, and smile but we 're excited to see what the future holds for this diligent young man!"
