In 1979 the United Methodist Youth Home was created by several caring individuals who saw the need for a residence for at-risk young women. The Southwest District of the INUMC then deeded 3.5 acres on the far eastside of Vanderburgh County to create UMYH.

In 2010, UMYH officially created and opened its second program, “Day Treatment”, an alternative educational program for students struggling in “traditional school” for different reasons (expulsion, cognitive barriers).
UNited Methodist Youth Home
In 2013, Truancy Intervention was added as UMYH’s third program to provide community-based services for truant (absent) youth. Students enrolled in Truancy Intervention work with specialists who ensure school attendance, provide tutoring, serve as mentors, and communicate with youth and their families (often through specifically-tailored treatment plans).

In 2017, UMYH broke ground for a new group home for male residents, “Holder Home”, which could hold up to 8 boys.
New Beginnings
In 2019, UMYH broke ground for a new group home for female residents, “New Beginnings”, which could hold up to 8 girls, each girl receiving her own bedroom.
