This month, our youth had the opportunity to hear from two incredible community partners who shared their experiences, life lessons, and encouragement. These conversations gave our youth a chance to explore different career paths, ask questions, and see firsthand that there are many roads to success.
Our first guest was Maurice Ferguson, owner of Higher Image Hair Studio. Maurice shared his inspiring journey of becoming a barber, relocating to a new state, and building his own successful business. He spoke honestly about the challenges he faced along the way and the determination it took to achieve his goals.
His message was simple but powerful: don't let obstacles keep you from pursuing your dreams. Maurice encouraged our youth to believe in themselves, work hard, and never be afraid to chase opportunities that may seem out of reach. His authenticity and passion resonated with everyone in the room, and our youth left feeling motivated and inspired.
Later in the month, we welcomed two recruiters from the U.S. Army, who shared their personal experiences and the many opportunities military service can provide. They talked about what led them to join the Army, the places they've traveled, the skills they've gained, and the experiences that have shaped their careers.
The recruiters kept the session interactive by asking questions, encouraging discussion, and engaging directly with our youth. Their presentation offered valuable insight into military service while highlighting the importance of discipline, leadership, education, and personal growth.
At UMYH, we believe exposing our youth to a variety of career paths and life experiences helps them envision what's possible for their own futures. Whether through entrepreneurship, military service, skilled trades, or higher education, every guest speaker helps broaden perspectives and reminds our youth that success can take many different forms.
